Day 14 - 18 were the final days of my internship. During those final days I recorded and edited a video on how to use your secret question to change your password. Words cannot describe how aggravating making this video was, so I really hope someone actually benefits from it. Originally the video was 9 minutes in length, and it took even longer to edit it. I eventually had the video down just over 3 minutes and all the transitions and callouts had been added. Then suddenly the video became messed up and decided to freeze up at 2 different parts of it. That meant that I could not fully publish it, so I had to go back and record the whole thing all over, and then edit it again. It didn't take quite as long to film the second time since I had already gone through the process once.
I also used Contribute to upload .pdf files that Susan Pruitt had created for employees on how to move to OWA and use it with Microsoft Office version of Outlook as well as transferring contacts and calendars.
Also Joanna Jasper setup a YouTube account so that I could create a channel with all the videos we have made, and all the videos we are going to make in the future. If you would like to visit the channel to see the videos it is http://www.youtube.com/catawbatech
I have set up two playlists so far. One is for the e-mail migration, and the other is for tutorials involving Catawba passwords.
In CatLink I edited the section on Passwords and Security for text and video links to instructions on how to change your Catawba systems password, and on how setup and use the password reset utility.
My internship is over, but since I like working in Computer Services I am going to stick around.

Day 7 - Day 13
I have been VERY busy the past couple of weeks. Susan and I have spent what seems like ages working on the Outlook Live Web App (or OWA). Maegen Worely played a big as well. Without her I doubt that we would have been able to get everything running as smoothly as it is. She helped with converting and embedding video files, and she gave me a crash course in MacroMedia Contribute. I was able to easily upload .pdf files onto our contribute page, and yesterday I taught Susan how to upload .pdf files in Contribute.
We created a video for setting up OWA and found other videos online that were really good as well.
Today I worked on creating a video for how to use your secret question to create a new password if you forgot your current one. I also made a .pdf on the steps for setting up a secret question.
Right now I am in the computer lab in Computer Services and Chad Lewis is looking at the laptop I use, and trying to install MacroMedia Contribute on it.
Although it is still being worked we do have some things for OWA published already. Most of the things up there are for students though. If you would like to see it log into CatLink and click on the "Technology" tab.

Day 6
On the morning of day 6 at Computer Services I edited the sections I had created by making the headings links and removing the "click here" links in the sub headings as well as adjusting some of the spacing between sections.
To make CatLink look nicer Susan took what I had for the "Microsoft Software" section and created a .pdf file.
I wasn't hungry at around noon so I just stayed at my computer during lunch.
That afternoon I went up to the library and checked out one of their laptops.
Once I got back I started working on some "Coming Soon" sections that had been posted on CatLink, all having to do with Catawba switching from "Scalix Webmail" to Microsoft's "Outlook Live."
I had to find video tutorials/guides for each. Finding them was a pain in the butt, but I found 2 out of 6. The switch happens on July 1st but I think I can find 4 more videos in time.
Towards the end of the day Susan suggested I get on my blogg and post a picture from the watermelon party from the day before (see picture below).

Day 5
On day 5 of my internship I spent most of the day going through the pictures I had saved and edited, and changed their file names to better describe what/who the picture was of. Since we cannot "tag" pictures, renaming files to better describe them is the only other method of making it easier for people to find certain pictures/photos when searching.
Susan told me to take a 1 hour lunch break (longer than it usually takes me to eat lunch and get back) so I decided to go to DJ's instead of getting fast food.
When I got back I continued to rename files and I had to e-mail a few people to find out the names of some of the students in a few of the pictures.
At about 2:30pm there was a "Watermelon Party" outside. President Oxindine, a lot of other employees, and a few students were there. I ate 7 or 8 slices (I forget) but I thought it was REALLY good watermelon.
After the "Watermelon Party" I finished up renaming (almost) all of the file names for the pictures/photos I found.
Once I was done renaming files, Susan showed me how we were going to set up the section called "Microsoft Software" which I had previously created but since there was so much information we thought it looked somewhat unappealing and decided to change it to where it will just be a single link that opens up a .pdf file with all of the information on it so that the website won't be so clustered up.
Then Susan and I discussed using videos on CatLink so that people won't have to read so much (since all text can be pretty boring). She started talking about a program called "Camtasia," and then I told her that I used to use a program called CamStudio; she excitedly responded "Do you still have it!!? I've looked all over for that program and can't find it anywhere!" I told her that I did not, but then I got on the internet and found it within 3 minutes and downloaded it in about 30 seconds.
The great thing about CamStudio is that it is completely free, simple, and produces good quality videos.
After finding CamStudio we discussed making videos on Day 6 and posting the information on Microsoft Software.

Day 4
On day 4 I downloaded and installed a freeware program called Paint.net onto my laptop. It is very similar to Photoshop and gets the job done.
All I did on day 4 was look up pictures for CatLink. I used Paint.net to resize them and keep the aspect ratio in tact so that they wouldn't look horrible. I also used it to adjust the brightness/contrast of some pictures that were hard to make out.
I looked to through tons of galleries on the website and found pictures for every department. I also looked in FaceBook photo albums to get pictures from students who went on this year's Costa Rica study abroad trip.
While searching through the website I also found 2 errors which I reported to Maegen Worley, Catawba's web developer.

Day 3
That morning Susan looked over my section on Microsoft Software and together we edited parts of it to make easier to navigate and gave it a few touch ups so it would be easier on the eyes. However getting it the way we wanted was a pain.
At about 3:00pm I was given the task of finding pictures/photos off the school's website that people might want to use on CatLink.
Before I began doing that [finding photos] though, I hitched a ride to the library with Mary Sewell who also works in computer services. Mary needed to go to the library to check out one of their laptops because it had a computer virus, and I needed to check out another laptop because the one I am using doesn't have Photoshop.
At the end of the day I turned the laptop I got from the library over to Richard Pickel because they suspected that it too may be infected with a computer virus.

Day 2
That morning I finished up the section I had been working on that taught how to change or retrieve a password. I then started to create a section for the Central Campus Calendar that taught how to:
Add a campus event to your personal Outlook calendar
Save a shortcut to the Central Campus Calendar on your desktop
Use the Catawba College Central Campus Calendar
There was also an ice cream party. The mail table was cleared off and ice cream, cookies, whipped cream, and chocolate syrup were placed on the table.
After the ice cream party I finished up the Central Campus Calendar section and began a section on Microsoft Software.
I was told it would probably take me a little over a day to do it but I was close to finishing a rough draft of the entire thing by 5:00pm (time when I can leave). However I don't like leaving [any job] just because I am allowed to leave when there is only a little bit of work left to do, so I stayed an extra 15-20 minutes and finished up the entire thing before going home.
